Your brain is plastic. Mental exercise can make it think better and solve problems faster. This means you. Kids aren’t the only ones with brains that can build mental muscle. Your brain is improvable from cradle to grave.
And since it looks like most of us are going to live longer than our parents, mental exercise is a must. You do not want your brain to crap out before your heart does.

Exercise your body till you break a sweat for 20 minutes or more, several times a week.

Do challenging cognitive activities where you pay close attention and gradually increase the difficulty.
Naturally, the opposite is true. Veg in front of the TV all night and your brain goes to pot.
