Fujitsu Launches Open Innovation Service

December 9, 2010 By Aminda

Fujitsu is inviting customers, partners and academic institutions to join its worldwide network of R&D facilities to develop new solutions. Use of the service isn’t limited to Fijitsu-specific problems but is open to all. The announcement from the global provider of ICT-based business solutions says:

What this means for you will depend entirely on the needs of your business. Perhaps you have a major, ongoing business challenge but don’t have the resources to tackle it alone, perhaps you’ve solved a problem with an innovative solution and want to exploit this solution further or maybe you just want a clearer understanding of the road ahead and how changes in technological capabilities and how those capabilities are delivered might impact your business, your suppliers and partners, and your customers.

The three key factors driving this change are the economic recession; IT evolution and new concepts such as Cloud, as well as technology enablers that can aid open innovation such as collaboration / online communications tools and trust derived from social networking.

This concept is far from new for Fujitsu. Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. (FLA), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. that was established in 1993. FLA conducts research in an open and networked environment, and contributes to the world of research communities through joint research projects with universities and research organizations, and through the free exchange of ideas within the technical community.

In May 2010, the company opened Fujitsu Laboratories Singapore, their first bio-medical focused research facility in the South East Asia region.  The laboratory is part of a comprehensive ecosystem which partners universities and research institutes with industry-relevant capabilities.
