Top Innovation Predictions for 2012

December 27, 2011 By IdeaConnection

Do you face 2012 with fear and trepidation or are you excited about what could be just round the corner? Could it be your best year yet?

Even with the most highly polished crystal ball nobody knows what the next 12 months has in store. American baseball legend Casey Stengel once said, “Never make predictions, especially about the future”. Nevertheless those wise sages at Innovation Excellence have pulled together a top ten list of predictions for innovators in 2012.  And paying attention to them may just improve your chances of keeping and staying ahead of the pack.

Right up there at the top is a prediction that 2012 will be the year of open innovation, building on strong foundations from previous years that have seen an increasing number of companies upping their innovation ante.

This will continue into next year and beyond as organisations become more comfortable with soliciting ideas from suppliers, partners, customers and the general public. And as the competition for ideas increases, so does the need for companies to be more systematic in their approach to OI partners.

Among the other predictions to catch our eye are:

  • In 2012 companies that fail to innovate will continue to fail
  • 2012 will mark the rise of systematic innovation efforts in small business
  • In 2012, national and regional governments will become increasingly involved in nurturing innovation
  • In 2012, eBooks will reinvent the traditional book publishing industry
  • In 2012, Apple will reinvent Television
Here’s to Your Good Fortune!

Whatever you have planned for the coming 12 months keep your eye on the innovation landscape; it deserves your time and attention. Onwards and upwards.
