Crowdsourcing Takes the Stress Out of Christmas Gift-Buying

crowdsource Christmas giftsWith only a few shopping days until Christmas it’s a nail-bitingly worrying time for those who haven’t yet decided what to give their loved ones. Gift buying should be one of the most pleasurable times of the festive season as you pick out items that you feel sure will delight kith and kin.

But it can also be a colossal headache if you can’t think of what to buy. Fortunately, the crowd can help as a number of websites have emerged where you can receive guidance from hundreds of strangers.

No sweaters – gift-givers can receive personal recommendations from others based on the interests of the person receiving the gift. All users have to do is provide a few details of the person they are buying a present for, such as age, gender, interests and relationship to the gift-buyer.

15gifts – the site that promises to take the guesswork out of giving. Users simply fill in a few details about the intended recipient and 15 tailored gift ideas are returned. They are based on the likes and dislikes of similar people.

Given.to – a resource for group giving, say if you have a Christmas present to buy for a teacher or community leader. Given lets you team up with other people to purchase a gift rather than paying for it all yourself.

Recipients compile a wish-list of presents, which takes out the guesswork. And you, along with others can make contributions. Let’s say that someone you know wants a gaming console that costs $200, but you only have $20 to spend. You contribute whatever you can afford and collaborate with other gifters to ensure that your friend or relative gets exactly what they want.
