Global Innovation Challenge for the Future of Cars

January 16, 2014 By IdeaConnection

news-1Student innovators around the world have just one month left to enter the massive global Valeo Innovation Challenge. The contest is a search for a product or system that will make the cars of 2030 more intelligent and intuitive.

So far, 300 teams from 40 countries and representing 254 universities have signed up, but there’s still time to take part as the closing date for project submissions is February 14th.

There is €100,000 (approx. USD $136,000) prize money up for grabs for the winner, and the route to the top spot starts in April when submissions will be whittled down to a shortlist of 20.

Each of these will be awarded a grant of €5,000 (approx.USD $6,800) to develop a functioning prototype. The best three teams will then be invited to present their projects to a panel of experts in September.

Before submitting ideas, the competition organizers have this advice for participants:

  • Clearly identify the problem to be solved and the concept that will solve it. “The solution should change radically the driving experience,” said Guillaume Devauchelle, Valeo Group Innovation and Scientific Development Vice President.
  • The solution should be integrated in a car and not be the car itself.
  • Existing technologies from other sectors that can be fitted in the car can be used.

There’s more information in the video below and on the contest’s official website.
