Countdown to the Inaugural World Open Innovation Conference

December 1, 2014 By IdeaConnection

napavalleyopeninnovationconferenceHave you got your tickets?  This week sees the very first  World Open Innovation Conference.  Leading industry and academic figures will gather in Napa Valley, California on December 4-5 for two days of research, lectures, presentations and brainstorming, designed to forge stronger links between business practice and academia.

The conference theme will address some of the gaps caused by a) industry practices that ignore scholarly research, and by b) academics who are content to sit in their ivory towers disregarding the laboratory or companies.

A large number of topics will be under discussion including:

  1. Developing metrics for measuring the impact of Open Innovation
  2. The role of individuals in the Open Innovation process
  3. How open innovation shapes business models (and vice versa)

Among the keynote speakers will be Henry Chesbrough (who is also co-host), Staci Palmer, Intel’s Director of Global Strategic Initiatives and Marketing and Tango Matsumoto, Fujitsu’s Executive Vice President & Head of Global Marketing.

Conference Highlight

No doubt, one of the conference highlights will be the presentation of a comprehensive open innovation study of large companies.  The research was conducted in the summer by the Garwood Center for  Corporate Innovation, Haas School of Business, University of California and Purdue University.  It is based on a survey of 125 US and European companies with annual revenues of more than $250 million.

Regular Fixture for the Diary?

The event has been organised by the Garwood Center, and if a success, could be an annual occurrence.
