Every year in many countries of the world, thousands of cyclists are injured or killed in road accidents.
Hoping to reduce the number of casualties is the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo, which has come up with an innovative and invisible spray paint for bikes. So, what’s the good of an invisible paint?
Well, it is only invisible during the day. At night, the reflective temporary paint becomes luminous.
Introducing LifePaint
The recently launched product is called LifePaint and it can be sprayed on bikes, clothing, helmets and other objects such as prams. The paint has no effect on the material it is sprayed on and it cannot be seen during the day.
However, at night the paint particles glow brightly in the glare of a car’s headlights. The product is not permanent, lasting for about one week and it is easily washed off.
This won’t be the first such spray to hit the market. In the US, lbedo100 Invisible Bright does a similar job, reflecting light when it is shone on.
Volvo’s Safety Mission
The new paint forms part of Volvo’s 2020 Vision initiative. The car maker’s aim is that “by 2020, no person will be killed or seriously injured, by a new Volvo”.
Forthcoming Launch?
At the moment, the paint is being given away free at a small collection of outlets in England. An international launch is expected to take place in the near future.
