Data Mine for Gold and Pocket a Fortune

Gold-cat10xHere’s how you can strike it rich!  Up to one million Canadian dollars is up for grabs for anyone who can help the Integra Gold Corporation find gold.

The Integra Gold Rush Challenge is a crowdsourcing project that the company hopes will lead to the next big gold discovery at its Sigma-Lamaque gold property in Val-d’Or, Québec.

So how can you help?

Well, first of all, you don’t have to don a helmet and go deep underground.

There’s Gold in them their Data Streams

The company will be releasing approximately 6 terabytes of historical mining and exploration data in digital format.  The information goes back as far as 1933 and encompasses over 30,000 historic drill holes, more than 50,000 gold assays and hundreds of kilometers of underground workings. Additionally, there are many other sets of mining statistics and photos.

Once all the information has been checked and verified, Integra hope to release it to the crowd via a special website.  This is expected to be sometime in September.

A New Gold Rush

The company believes there are many potential gold exploration targets. Digital data mining ‘prospectors’ will need to sift through and analyze the facts and figures to find sites where they think Integra has the best chance of making a discovery.

The prize money will be split over several categories and will be awarded to whoever comes up with the highest probability locations for gold discoveries.

Of course this isn’t the first data mining gold rush.  In 2001, Goldcorp awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to virtual explorers who identified key sites that yielded returns.
