patient2If you’ve got an idea of how to improve patient care or drive down the cost of health care through remote patient monitoring, then Boston Scientific wants to hear from you.

The company has launched its Boston Scientific Connected Patient Challenge, an open innovation contest for novel medical advances.

The global developer and manufacturer of medical devices is particularly keen to see ideas using wearable, implantable or ubiquitous sensors. There is also an interest in the management of the flow of data and the decision making process.

The winners will be decided by online crowd voting and the judging panel’s scores, and up to $25,000 of services in kind will be shared to help them further develop and/or pilot their ideas.

The Value of Open Innovation

Boston Scientific is keen on using open innovation as a way of encouraging novel thinking and to get access to ideas and smart people that they may not otherwise come into contact with.

“We firmly believe in the power of contests like these to produce game-changing technologies that can help transform the way healthcare is delivered,” said David Knapp, PhD, vice president of Corporate Research at Boston Scientific. “Collaboration and open innovation are at the core of Boston Scientific’s vision for the future of healthcare.”

The challenge is open until January 5, 2016 and more details can be found by clicking on this link.

Anyone can enter, be they doctors, engineers, designers, nurses or lay members of the public. And there is no limit on the number of ideas any one person can submit.
