Requests For FundingBiofuel from Petroleum Nut (Pittosporum resineferum)Biofuel production, extraction and use from petroleum nut for cooking lighting, heating, drying and for runnning small engines and possibly automobilesDetailed Description: The petroleum nut (Pittosporum resineferum) is native only to the Philippines andsomeparts of China. It is an endnagered tree because ofdeforestation. Planting of the tree through the use of seeds is next to impossible Filipino scientists found out as early as 1990. But I have discovered how to plant the seeds, raise it under nurseries and grow them sucessfully.I have more than 30,000 of these trees now. The oil from the fruit of the tree has an octane rating of 54 per cent much higher than the Jatropha curcas which has 41 percent. The main chemical constituients of the oil are heptane, dihydropinene and e-pinen. It is highly flammable like gasoline, the oilignites immediately when set afire. I was able to extract the oil through distillation and have tried it as alternative for LPG and kerosene for cooking, lighting, heating and drying. I have blended it with gasoline and it can run water pumps, grinders and small miling machines. Definition for each component which is materially important to understanding this product/service/technology: Biofuel--this is a sustainable source of biofuel that can replce or complement fossil fuels Subject idea's Champion: Michael Bengwayan, he has a Ph d in environmental Resource management Problem the Invention, Patent, or IP addresses: We need to put up an appropriate distillation and transesterification process system to maximize oil extraction, blending and use. Need the Invention, Patent, or IP answers: Scarcity of sustainable fuel, high prices of fossil fuel, helps reduce global warming. How it saves money: The process in producing and extracting the oil is much cheaper and easier than drilling fossil fuel How it saves time: It is easier to produce and process than fossil fuel. How it saves resources: Resources are saved because this tree and be grown and regrown.By producing oil from these tree, people will not cut trees for fuelwood and thus more trees abound to help reduce global warming. How it saves energy: Lesser energy is required to produce this energy. Unlike fossil fuels, which require so much electricity, manpower, fossil energy for production, fuel from petroleum nut would not entail such. How it is safer: It is safer because one does not need to drill and endanger communities, water sources amd the environment. Production of the tree does not pollute and no major pollutants are produced. How it is simpler: Biofuel production and process is simpler compared to those involved in fossil fuel. How it is more efficient: This is yet to be studied further. How its use is environmentally friendly: Since the major avtivity is planting, the trees in fact act as carbon sinks to lessen global warming. Comunities, rivers, the air and seas are not polluted unlike oil drilling. How its production is environmentally friendly: The trees act as carbon sinks and when people use the oilfrom the treefor cooking, cutting of trees for fuelwood is greatly reduced. Target market(s): Small machineries Farms Homes Why will people/companies purchase it: It is cheaper, safer and easier to produce. Weaknesses placing idea at a competitive disadvantage: Efficiency External threats that could jeopardize the marketing of this IP: Multinational oil companies Opportunities that create a current demand for this IP: It is sa safe and sustainable source of fuel. High prices of fossil fuel. Diminishing sources of fossil fuel Realistic timeline until IP is ready for commercialization: Three years I am interested in licensing this IP I would like funds to develop this IP Funding requested: Contact requestor Planned use of funds: 1. Mass propagate and plant petroleujm nut trees through coperatives 2. Set up a distilling and transesterification process plant Funding request #28 Contact the person requesting funds.
