Pet LooBreakthrough: This simple invention allows you to enjoy your pet while eliminating the need to take them out in inclement weather or for those 6am bathroom runs. Inventor: , The Story: Tobi Skovron loved his dog Subi, but hated braving freezing cold winds, rain having to take his dog outside the apartment to do its business.Tobi and his partner Simone - a vet nurse - have come up with a pet toilet for apartment dwelling animals: the Pet Loo. Understanding animal behavior, they started with a synthetic grass surface that pets associate with the surface texture they are used to when they do their business outside. Underneath the grass is a corrugated base that drains the waste into a convenient bucket. Solid waste is scooped from the top and disposed of in the garbage bin, as you would do in the outdoors. After 20 prototypes, the couple was finally happy with their design. After taking out a $20,000 loan, and securing a patent, the couple hired a professional design company to insure a first-class product. They started by going around to pet shops, and within weeks they had enough pre-orders to manufacture there first run. Since then, sales have grown from 30 a week to more than 150 a week in Australia, and they are now exporting to twelve countries as well. Running an ad campaign through a real estate website was a stroke of genius that allowed them to reach their target market of apartment dwellers with pets. The Pet Loo grass can be easily replaced when it wears out. It comes in cat- and dog-sized units, and units can be linked together if you have several pets.
