A 3D-printed heart on a chip could help end the need for animal testing and open the door to more customized organs-on-chips.
Developed by a team from Harvard University, the chip was printed using six custom-designed inks that had been embedded with soft strain tissue. The different inks allowed for a continuous printing procedure, which in turn enabled the team to automate the process for quick fabrication.
