3D-Printed Pill Combines Multiple Doses

3D-Printed Pill Combines Multiple Doses
May-30-16
A prototype pill-printing technology could allow multiple doses of different medicines to be combined in one 3D-printed pill.

The technique, developed by a team from the National University of Singapore, differs from previous all-in-one pill attempts in that it allows for more flexibility of dosages. To build the pill, the doctor would design the dosage amounts and schedule on a computer program, which would be used to build a multi-pronged model sent to a 3D printer. A liquid polymer containing the medication would then be poured into the mold, where the different shapes of the template’s prongs dictate when the outer coating will break down to release the medication.
