3D-Printed Tissue Keeps Cells In Place

3D-Printed Tissue Keeps Cells In Place
Aug-22-17
A new technique for 3D printing living tissues could offer a breakthrough in regenerative medicine.

High-resolution tissue is difficult to print, because the shifting cells within the structure have a tendency to collapse. To help keep the cells in place—and intact—a team from Oxford developed a way to contain the cells within a protective lipid coating. The coating can be layered to build living tissues, and printing the tissues one drop at a time resulted in a higher resolution able to better mimic natural tissue.
