Acton Rocket Skates are Made for the City

The ACTON R RocketSkates have taken portable transportation to a new level, packing a pair of motors and a microcontroller into each smartphone-controlled skate.

The skates, which have far exceeded their funding goal on Kickstarter, are powered by a pair of electric hub motors that communicate with each other in order to maintain a consistent speed. Designed for hands-free operation, the RocketSkates can be set into motion by tilting the foot forward, while a pulling-back motion will slow and stop the skates. The lithium-ion battery will power the skates for between 45 and 90 minutes, depending upon the model.

The skates have also been created with the urban environment in mind. The toe of the wearer is left free, which makes it possible for the user to run up stairs or hop onto a curb.
