Finally available for consumers, the X Tweel airless tire and wheel combination will never go flat.
The X Tweel has been in use in military vehicles for a few years now, but this is the first time is has been made available for non-military use on select vehicles. Instead of pressurized air, the X Tweel cushions the ride with a system of flexible polyurethane spokes set inside a steel and metal rim and a stiff metal hub. Most of the load is carried on the outer rim, and the spokes and hub distribute the weight on the rim as the tire moves over objects. This air-free construction allows the X Tweel to last up the three times longer than conventional tires.
The X Tweel will be making its commercial appearance on John Deere's ZTrak mowers.
