Anti-Piracy Curtain Turns Water to a Weapon

Anti-Piracy Curtain Turns Water to a Weapon
Apr-29-12
The Anti-Piracy Curtain uses streams of water and wildly flailing hoses to fend off would be attackers.

Developed by a pair of Japanese companies, the system prevents pirates from boarding the ship in two ways. One method uses the ship's onboard firefighting system to dump huge amounts water off the side of the ship and down onto the attackers, soaking anyone below and flooding small skiffs. The second method involves high pressure hoses, which are deployed down the sides of the ship and weighted to keep them close to the water's surface. Pumping water through the hoses will cause them to fling around violently, making it difficult for someone to board the ship.

Commercial shipping vessels are not allowed carry arms in international waters, and have been relying upon defense with simple water hoses.

This is very interesting and will certainly provide some challenges to boarding. But how does this help avoid the threat of attack with, say, RPGs? For example, "Shut the system off or we will fire?"
