Apple has been awarded a patent for their dual-screen solar-powered Macbook, bringing up a step closer to off-grid computing.
The concept design features a top surface equipped with a layer of glass that can be triggered to become either opaque or transparent, allowing the user to check notifications or updates even when the notebook is closed. The photovoltaic cells are embedded in the surface of the notebook between the rear panel and the front-facing screen. When the glass is set to transparent mode, the cells would use either sunlight or ambient light to charge the notebook’s battery.
The two-sided laptop display patent was first filed in 2010.
