By using vibrations to help counter hand tremors, the ARC pen could alleviate some of the symptoms of Micrographia in Parkinson's patients.
Still in the prototype phase, the ARC pen is equipped with a system of small, high-frequency vibration motors controlled by an onboard computer. As the computer learns the movements and tremor pattern of the user's hand, it will trigger the vibrating motors to compensate and help smooth out the handwriting. In tests, the ARC pen was able to improve handwriting legibility by 8 percent, and also helped reduce pain during writing.
