The Arctic Harvester concept would harvest icebergs to create fresh water that feeds a floating greenhouse—and the 800 people on board.
The designers of the Artic Harvester have chosen to take a pragmatic approach to the effects of global warming by capturing the icebergs that break away from melting glaciers. The circular harvester would float on the surface of the water, where it would capture small icebergs and then move them into a central bay to collect the fresh melt water. The water would be used in the hydroponic greenhouse, and the crops produced there could be used to feed both the people on the harvesters and those on land.
The Arctic Harvester design won first prize in the Jacques Rougerie Competition
