Aslan Robotic Hand Translates Text to Signs

Aslan Robotic Hand Translates Text to Signs
Aug-21-17
The Aslan 3D-printed robotic sign language interpreter could offer a new source of communication for the hearing impaired.

Part of Project Aslan (Antwerp's Sign Language Actuating Node), the arm consists of 25 parts 3D-printed from a standard printer, as well as an array of servo motors and controllers all coordinated by an Arduino Due microcomputer. Although the arm is currently only able to offer finger spellings from text messages, it is the first step towards creating a two-armed robot with an expressive face able to translate the full nuances of sign language.
