Autopilot Could Reduce Boating Accidents

Autopilot Could Reduce Boating Accidents
Oct-09-15
A new autopilot system for boats could help reduce the number of recreational boat-related accidents by anticipating the accident before it can occur.

Developed by a team from the University of Buffalo, the auto-pilot system was created specifically for small and mid-size boats. Equipped with an array of sensors and cameras, as well as the ability to monitor weather reports and objects in the water, the system is able to make autonomous corrections to avoid dangers. The captain can also program a destination into the system, upon which it will guide the ship to the port using the safest and most efficient route.
