AVAflex Vertebral Balloon System Offers a Simpler Approach

AVAflex Vertebral Balloon System Offers a Simpler Approach
Feb-04-14
The AVAflex Vertebral Balloon System can be implanted through a single cannula, potentially easing patient discomfort and expediting the process.

Traditionally, treating vertebral compression fractures with kyphoplasty procedures required inserting the balloon and bone cement injection by penetrating two pedicles of the vertebra. The new technique, in contrast, combines the features of the AVAflex Curved Vertebral Augmentation Needle and the AVAmax Vertebral Balloon to allow physicians to place the balloon and inject the fill across the midline of the vertebral body.

According to Dr. Allan Brook, the first physician to use the system on the East Coast, “The unipedicular approach offers a less risky approach to the midline of a vertebral body.”
