Ballistic Wallpaper Nets Dangerous Debris

Ballistic Wallpaper Nets Dangerous Debris
May-28-15
A ballistic wallpaper made using Kevlar fibers will catch and contain the flying debris from a destroyed wall, providing added protection to soldiers who frequently take shelter in ruined buildings.

When a wall is hit by a shell or explosive, the bits of rubble and debris are slung through the air as dangerous projectiles. In order to help contain the debris, the U.S. Army research team embedded a mesh of Kevlar fibers within a flexible, polymer film. One side of the film is adhesive and it can be stored as a roll, allowing it to be applied quickly to wall to create a “debris net.”
