Bat Deterrent System Relies on Ultrasound

Bat Deterrent System Relies on Ultrasound
Dec-15-18
A new Bat Deterrent System from NRG Systems diverts bats away from turbines with an ultrasonic acoustic field.

As wind turbines grow in use, so does the risk to bats who can be injured by the spinning blades. To help reduce this risk, the Bat Deterrent System emits an ultrasonic field in the same frequency range as the bat’s own natural call. This similarity in frequency interferes with the bats’ echolocation and causes them to veer away from the airspace. In tests, the Bat Deterrent System reduced bat fatalities by 54 percent.
