Battery Coating Could Pave the Way to New Electric Vehicles

Battery Coating Could Pave the Way to New Electric Vehicles
Sep-04-19
A new lithium-ion battery coating helps increase battery life while also reducing the risk of dendrite-induced fires.

Developed by a team from Stanford University, the coating helps prevent the formation of dendrites with a network of molecules that offer a uniform delivery of charged lithium molecules to the electrode. At the same time, the coating also prevents undesirable chemical reactions and buildup on the anode, which significantly reduces the battery’s power delivery ability.

The team believes the new coating could increase the stability of lithium metal batteries and make them more appealing for commercial use, including use in commercial vehicles.
