Battery Made from Liquid Metal

Battery Made from Liquid Metal
May-31-09
Researchers at MIT are working with methods of creating large, eco-friendly batteries made entirely from liquid metal.

The batteries are being developed for use with wind farms and solar cells as they are able to store huge amounts of energy. Batteries such as these would not work well in cars as they are not crash-proof, however this is not an issue with their intended use.

The batteries are completely encased in stainless steel and must maintain a temperature of 500 degrees to keep the metals inside in liquid form. The batteries are still in the concept stage at this stage and marketable batteries using this technology are still a few years away.
