Beacon Transponder Helps Target Tumors

Beacon Transponder Helps Target Tumors
Jul-29-14
Developed for use with the Calypso system, the implantable Beacon transponder will help physicians target tumors while avoiding healthy tissue.

The rice-sized device is meant to be used with the Varian Calypso system, which is used to guide radiation beams. Once the Beacon has been implanted in the tissue, it will emit a non-ionizing RF signal that the Varian Calypso system will track in real-time—allowing clinicians to deliver the optimum radiation dose to the tumor while avoiding neighboring healthy tissue.
