A team at Drexel University has brought us closer to microrobots that can be directed to a specific location in the body.
The key behind the new “microswimmers,” as they are called, is their bead-like shape, which allows them to link together magnetically. The bots can link to form into a sort of propeller inside the body, which can then be triggered by an external magnetic field to spin and move forward. The bead bots can also be triggered to separate from the group and move on their own, as well as reconnect within the body.
