Biodegradable Pressure Sensor

Biodegradable Pressure Sensor
Jan-17-18
A biodegradable pressure sensor will dissolve harmlessly in the patient’s body to help make some medical procedures less invasive.

Developed by a team from the University of Connecticut, the sensor could be used in applications such as sutures, bone grafts, and medical implants, replacing today’s toxic devices while also eliminating the need for follow-up surgeries to remove the device. In addition to measuring pressure, the sensor’s ability to release a small electrical charge when pressed could also have uses in tissue regeneration or monitoring other diseases such as glaucoma or bladder cancer.
