BioFinWave Traverses Pipes with Ease

BioFinWave Traverses Pipes with Ease
Jun-18-18
The cuttlefish-inspired BioFinWave can move backward or forwards, traveling easily through pipes and other tight, underwater spaces.

Developed by the German company Festo, the BionicFinWave is equipped with a pair of flexible, silicon fins that run the length of the bot’s body. The fins are operated by nine lever arms that move independently to allow them to generate different wave patterns, enabling the BionicFinWave to change direction quickly and easily.

The BionicFinWave could be equipped with sensors to collect data such as pressure readings or water temperatures, transmitting the information wirelessly to a device outside the pipes.
