A personalized blood test able to detect breast cancer relapse much earlier than current methods could enable women to get life-saving treatment sooner.
The test, developed by a team from the Institute of Cancer Research, relies on a personalized ctDNA (circulating tumor DNA ) assay called “mutation tracking’ to detect tumor DNA in blood plasma. By monitoring thectDNA in the patient’s blood, the test is able to accurately predict potential relapse as well as the ways in which the disease has evolved, enabling the patient to choose the best treatment.
