Designed with people who live in earthquake-prone areas in mind, the Bloom collapsible helmet is compact enough to be included in a basic emergency kit.
Developed by Toyo Safety, the Bloom helmet will fold down for storage, but can be expanded to its full, helmet shape in less than a minute. When faced with falling debris and other dangerous objects, the user can simply pull a cord attached to the back of the helmet, which will open the sturdy, plastic panels into helmet form.
The Bloom won a 2013 G-Mark Good Design Award and comes in a variety of colors.
