BloomSky Monitors the Weather in the Backyard

BloomSky Monitors the Weather in the Backyard
Jul-18-14
The BloomSky backyard weather camera keeps an eye on the weather in a specific location, gathering information that could be used to create localized, real-time weather reports.

Each BloomSky weather station unit is equipped with an HD camera that takes a photo every three to five minutes and an array of sensors that monitor the humidity, pressure, temperature, UV index and rainfall. It can be staked in the ground or attached to a roof or wall, and can be powered by house power or solar power. The images and data are sent to the cloud via the house WiFi, allowing the user to check the weather with a smartphone, and the system will also send an alert if the weather is about to change drastically, such as a sudden rainstorm.

Ultimately, the team hopes to see a network of BloomSkys in many different locations, allowing the system to use that same cloud-based information to compile a more detailed map about a city's varying weather.
