Body Tracking for Better Ergonomics

Body Tracking for Better Ergonomics
Mar-13-15
Researchers have created a new body tracking technology that could help product designers develop finer-tuned ergonomic devices.

The technology consists of a suit equipped with an array of optical markers that emit light captured by specialized cameras. As the individual wearing the suit performs different motions, the cameras record the movements in 3D. This 3D data is then projected onto a model of the human body, allowing researchers to more accurately record which muscles and joints are put under strain when performing different tasks. As well as providing information on body strain, the technology also allows researchers to assess how efficiently the user can operate a particular device.
