BodyWorn Camera Aids in Police Accountability

BodyWorn Camera Aids in Police Accountability
May-20-15
The BodyWorn camera could help protect both police and citizens by automatically recording interactions for later investigation.

Developed by Utility, the BodyWorn system is designed to be incorporated discreetly into the police officer’s vest, where it cannot be removed by the officer or the criminal in question. The device’s video camera will trigger automatically at a certain time, such as when the officer breaks into a run or has an increase in heart rate, and will stream the video to a server in the cloud—eliminating the chance of the data being compromised.

The camera can also be activated by voice command or remotely by dispatch, and the higher level of accountability should help to protect both the officers and the people they are sworn to serve and protect.
