Brailletouch App Brings Braille to the Smartphone

Brailletouch App Brings Braille to the Smartphone
Feb-21-12
The new Brailletouch app turns a smartphone touchscreen into a simulated Braille keyboard, allowing users to type accurately without needing to look at the screen.

Developed by the Georgia Institute of Technology, the app transforms the touchscreen into a six-key, soft touch keyboard. Typing on the keyboard is similar to using a Braille keyboard, and the position of the keys allows the user's hands to stay in a fixed position.

The Brailletouch app won the 2011 MobileHCI competition for the design category.

I think this is such a good idea. I myself wouldn't use it but now people that have difficulty seeing can take part in a touch screen phone. This is a great idea that is going to change the world.

This is a seriously awesome thing! It is really amazing to see how tech adapts so visually impaired users can take full advantage of devices!
