Brain4Cars Anticipates Driver Error

Brain4Cars Anticipates Driver Error
Apr-22-15
The Brain4Cars collision system monitors both the environment and the driver's body language to predict the driver's next action—and whether or not they are about to make a mistake.

Created by researchers from Stanford and Cornell University, the Brain4Cars system features the standard externally aimed cameras as well as an internally focused one that monitors the driver's face and head motions. By noting where the driver seems to be looking and taking into account the environmental features, such as upcoming turns or crossing pedestrians, the system can issue a warning to the driver before an accident occurs. Warnings to the driver can be sent via vibrations, sound and audio.

The system is not perfect yet, and can be confused by shadows. Still, the team is working on improvements as well as other ways to incorporate warnings and safety reminders.
