Breathing Stone Plays Pulse-Based Music to Relieve Stress

Breathing Stone Plays Pulse-Based Music to Relieve Stress
Oct-14-14
The hand-held Breathing Stone helps to relieve stress by monitoring the user's heartbeat and breathing and providing real-time musical feedback.

The Breathing Stone is held in the hand, where it will play a tone that reflects the user's pulse rate, essentially "making music out of the pulse itself." This allows the individual to become immediately tuned in to their heart rate. A second wave of sound plays with the first to act as a breathing-rate cue, helping the user to breathe at a rate that will lower their blood pressure and reduce stress.

The Breathing Stone is the result of a collaboration funded by the REACH Hub, an organization with the aim of encouraging more arts and humanities researchers to become "actively engaged in research-based knowledge exchange.
