Bruise Suit Changes Color to Indicate Injury

Bruise Suit Changes Color to Indicate Injury
Apr-05-14
Designed with paraplegic athletes in mind, the Bruise injury detection suit can detect an injury and indicate it severity, reducing the chances of a potentially debilitating injury going untreated.

Advances in equipment technology have made it possible for paraplegics to participate in a wide array of extreme sports, which also exposes these athletes to the same potential for injury as anyone else. However, paraplegic athletes often suffer from a reduced or total loss of pain sense, and will not always realize that they have been injured—and untreated injuries can hinder performance or even become life-threatening.

The Bruise was created to provide these athletes with a real-time injury warning system. The suit is made of a comfortable, sweat-wicking fabric embedded with a pressure sensitive film that will indicate the severity of an injury by turning bright red. The color density with vary with the severity of the injury, which alerts the athlete or coach to the injury in time to have it treated.
