CHEW: A New Spin on Reusable Straws

Nov-07-18 Meet CHEW. It's the world's first pocketable chewable reusable dry spin straw. Launched on Kickstarter on 24th Oct, Wednesday, the campaign has raised SGD$20,000 in just the first week of their campaign.

What's Up with Current Reusable Straws
The CHEW team has always thought of adopting reusable straws but have never found one that offered a seamless journey. Users always end up having to adjust to their straws rather than the other way around. Carrying reusable straws by hand or in a fabric case traps moisture when not in use. And each time you want to use your straw, you need to purse your lips to protect your teeth, as such each reposition of your straw and each sip becomes a calculated action or a painful reminder of the presence of your reusable straw.

CHEW features 4 innovations to the realm of reusable straws to offer you a better experience and to encourage you to go green.

Spin Dry
CHEW allows you to dry your reusable aluminium straw by taking it out for a spin. This means that after a quick rinse and twirl, you'll be able to keep your straw, moisture-free, in your bag or pocket. Although once you spin, we doubt you will want to stop.

Chew to your heart's content
CHEW also features 4 different textured chewable tips to add a new layer to your usual drinking experience. Chew to your heart's content on food grade silicone tips inspired by nature and classic geometric elements, including one Kickstarter exclusive design based on the waves of the sea.

Pocket your straw
Designed to be portable, breaking CHEW into two allows you to slip it into any pocket, while CHEW's recycled plastic case aids you in easy assembly with a simple click.

Cutting Edge
Finally, for those still transitioning into an eco-friendly lifestyle, CHEW's case includes a small tip for you to cut a slit in the cover of your drink. Struggle no more with that final barrier to your sweet drink as this simple cut allows your reusable straw to slide smoothly into your cup.

We are a team of 3 Singapore based industrial designer. We believe that being eco-friendly is easy, if you are given the right tools. By injecting a little fun and insanity into everyday problems, we can find the solution to save the world in our own little ways.

The three of us have always considered buying reusable straws, but never quite found one that met our needs. Along with many major companies choosing to ban reusable straws, we decided it was time to do something about it. Thus, CHEW was born!
