Clean Energy Fuel Cell Could Power a Neighborhood

Clean Energy Fuel Cell Could Power a Neighborhood

(14)Feb-13-12
A new 'super battery' has been producing enough clean electricity to power over 1000 homes, proving itself as the largest fuel cell of its type.

Located in Antwerp, Belgium, the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell uses hydrogen's chemical energy and an electrochemical reaction with oxygen to create clean energy. In the past 800 hours of operation, the fuel cell has generated more than 500MWh, the equivalent to the use of 1370 families over the same amount of time.
