Clever Buoy Sends Shark Alerts

Clever Buoy Sends Shark Alerts
Jun-30-14
The Clever Buoy was designed to keep swimmers safer by sensing sharks with sonar and then sending an alarm to a smartphone.

While some areas already have shark-sensing systems, many of them rely upon nets to help separate sharks from swimmers, and these nets can entangle other creatures. Offering a hands-off approach to shark deterrents, the Clever Buoy is designed to be anchored to the seabed, where it beams a network of sonar signals into the water. A processor inside the buoy analyzes the signals to determine if a shark is in the area, and will send an alert via satellite to a designated smartphone, such as the beach lifeguard, if a shark is identified.
