Compact Shelter Sets up Quickly, Recycles Completely

Compact Shelter Sets up Quickly, Recycles Completely
Jun-15-14
Designed for disaster victims and other people who have been displaced from their homes, the Compact Shelter can be quickly set up, or taken down, in less than two minutes.

The Compact Shelter was initially created by Alastair Pryor as a way to provide a quick and portable shelter for homeless people; a shelter that could even be folded to fit inside a box. As the project evolved, the goal became to focus on a cost-effective aid relief that could be used in a range of environments. The shelter is made from a UV stabilized polypropylene, weighs only 35 pounds, and can be flat-packed for ease of transport. When erected, the shelter measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 6.5 feet—enough space to accommodate two adults and two children.

The modular shelters can be linked together to form a larger shared space, and each comes equipped with air vents to help moderate the temperature. The polypropylene itself also has good thermal properties, and can be 100 percent recycled when the shelter's lifespan is complete.
