Connected Wipers Improve Weather Report Accuracy

Nov-02-19 Toyota’s connected windshield wipers communicate when they are on to help create more accurate weather maps.

The connected wipers are part of a joint project between Toyota and the Japanese company Weathernews—which offers app-based weather reports. Taking advantage of the on-board communication modules on most domestic Toyotas, the system can detect and transmit information on whether the wipers are on or off in designated regions. That information can then be used to create an ‘actual’ rain map for comparison to the radar-based Weathernews report.
