Creating Paper from PET

Creating Paper from PET
Jan-20-15
By converting PET bottles into mineral paper, the Cronology company hope to save both trees and water while offering a new way to reuse the ubiquitous plastic bottles.

Founded by a team of young Mexican entrepreneurs, the Cronology technology functions without the need for water or chemicals such as chlorine. The process involves crushing the recycled PET bottles with calcium carbon to create plastic beads, which are then subjected to a high-temperature casting process and formed into large sheets of the paper.

The resulting mineral paper is stronger than standard paper, is photodegradable (degrading in about six months) and absorbs less ink during printing.
