Although biopsies and bronchoscopies are the typical methods of lung disease diagnosis, the procedures are both invasive and complex. To offer a simpler alternative, the team from Deton focused on collecting the particles ejected from the lungs rather than entering the lungs for a sample. The particles—typically expelled via a cough—can be analyzed on site or sent to a lab.

According to CEO Patrick Sislian, the technology is both quicker and less expensive than conventional diagnostic methods, requiring only about ten minutes to obtain a sample and delivering the proper medication within days.
