Dorothy Sends a Text With a Tap of the Heel

Dorothy Sends a Text With a Tap of the Heel
Oct-24-14
Designed to be used discretely as a sort of escape hatch from awkward situations, the Dorothy can trigger a preset smartphone command with a simple tap of the heels.

The Dorothy system is made up of the Ruby, a small device that fits in the heel of the shoe, and the companion iPhone app that will trigger the smartphone's action—such as sending an incoming call from a fake contact in order to escape a boring meeting or sending an immediate text to let friends know your location (useful in potentially dangerous situations). True to its namesake, the Dorothy is activated by three taps of the heel, which are detected by the onboard accelerometer. The signal is then sent to the smartphone via Bluetooth.

The design team at iStrategyLabs is working to make the prototype smaller, as well as creating new triggered actions such as automatically ordering a pizza. They are also welcoming ideas from the public.
