Double-Sided Tape Could Replace Sutures

Double-Sided Tape Could Replace Sutures
Nov-02-19
A double-sided tape able to hold wet tissues together could offer a secure and safer method than sutures.

The tape was developed by a team from MIT using a base made out of as strip of gelatin or chitosan, which will safely degrade in the body in days to months. The strip is coated with a layer of polyacrylic acid, which will absorb body fluids on surfaces to create weak hydrogen bonds that secure the tissues together. The process takes only five seconds, much less time than surgical glues.
