Dual-Chamber Algae-Powered Fuel Cell Increases Efficiency

Dual-Chamber Algae-Powered Fuel Cell Increases Efficiency
Jan-14-18
A new design for algae-powered fuel cells could increase the efficiency of the devices while also lowering costs.

Developed at the University of Cambridge, the technology relies on separating the charging and power delivery systems of the fuel cells, which have conflicting requirements. The new device is built with two chambers designed independently to optimize both processes at the same time, which when used with the team’s genetically modified algae increased the efficiency of the fuel cell up to five times that of previous designs.
